Laune Rangers 7-12, Austin Stacks 2-10

A storming second half display by Laune Rangers gave the Killorglin side a convincing win over Austin Stacks in the County Under 16 League in JP O’Sullivan Park on Monday evening.

Laune Rangers got off to a superb start, scoring three early goals through Dáire Cleary, Roan Moriarty and Daragh O’Connor, as Kevin Fitzpatrick, Eoin O’Sullivan and Dáire Cleary in particular linked up well and created a number of chances. Points were also scored by Moriarty, Daragh O’Connor, Cleary & Mark O’Connor, while a converted penalty kept Stacks in touch. Laune Rangers went into the break with a 5 point lead. Half Time score: Laune Rangers 3-4, Austin Stacks 1-5.

Laune Rangers opened the second half as they did the first with an early goal through Daragh O’Connor. The Rangers defence started to assert some dominance in the third quarter – holding Stacks to two points in the period – with Conor Murphy coming into his own at full back with Oisin Daly and James Hurley among those in support. Roan Moriarty (2) and Shane Doona pointed excellent scores before Daragh O’Connor sealed his hat-trick with his team’s 5th goal.

Laune Rangers were now pulling away from Stacks on the scoreboard. Further goals from Dáire Cleary and Eoin O’Sullivan came before the final whistle as did points from Ronan O’Shea & Eoin Evans (2). Austin Stacks added a second penalty and three points in the final stages to double their half time tally. Final score:- Laune Rangers 7-12, Austin Stacks 2-10.

A super team performance on the night saw a number of excellent performances. While the scoring came primarily from the forwards, Conor Murphy’s second half performance – both individually and in leading the defensive group – cut out the chance of a Stacks comeback. However, the forwards were unplayable on the evening in every score coming from play, with Dáire Cleary, Daragh O’Connor & Roan Moriarty accumulating 6-6 between them.

Laune Rangers: Dylan Fitzgerald, Oisin Daly, Conor Murphy, Evan Madden, Sean Arthurs, Liam Croke, James Hurley, Eoin O’Sullivan (1-0), Kevin Fitzpatrick, Daragh O’Connor (3-1), Dáire Cleary (2-2), Sean Doona (0-2), Mark O’Connor (0-1), Roan Moriarty (1-3), Eoin Clifford. Subs: Ronan O’Shea (0-1), Eoin Evans (0-2), Jack Evans, Cormac Doyle, Ronan Fitzpatrick, Peadar Foley.
