Under 14s lose Division One tie to An Ghaeltacht in Gallarus

An Ghaeltacht 3-13, Laune Rangers 3-8

Laune Rangers Under 14 Blue team made the long trip to the Gaeltacht for the second round of their County League Division One campaign on Wednesday evening.

Rangers were defeated narrowly in the end 3-13 to 3-8 but in truth they didn’t deserve the victory on the night and the score line flattered them slightly as they scored 3-2 late on in a late surge but left themselves with too much to do during the game.

The home side started with the aid of a very strong wind and raced into an early lead but Rangers helped by some good play by the returning Barry O’Connor and Gearoid Hassett kept themselves in the game. However, Rangers were caught with two late sucker-punches with the first goal being one that should have been stopped by the full back line while the second goal conceded on the stroke of half time was costly at the final whistle. Laune Rangers can be thankful for good play from the 2 corner backs Patrick Brennan and Matt Reenstierna as well as solid goalkeeping by Jake Reenstierna for keeping them in the game.

In truth Rangers struggled for long patches in the second half also despite playing with the elements and the concession of a 3rd goal mid way through the second half was the deciding moment of the game. Laune Rangers rallied however and prolonged pressure in the final 10 minutes led to 3-2 being scored but unfortunately it was a case of too little too late.

Rangers will need to rally for the next county league game, which is now a must win if they hope to progress to the County Semi Finals in coming weeks. Best for Laune Rangers on the night were Patrick Brennan, Jake and Matt Reenstierna, Barry O’ Connor and Gearoid Hassett.

Dromid/Waterville 3-5, Laune Rangers B 1-6

Very proud of all players that went down to Dromid, 16 players travelled and they all got game time under difficult conditions. This was a very young under 14 team and played some great football. Rangers restricted Dromid/Waterville to only 2 goals at half time. Half time score Dromid/Waterville 2-0, Laune Rangers 0-3. The scores came from Martin Fay, Mikey O’Donnell, and Adam Owens. Three substitutes came on at half time:- Jack O’Sullivan, Darragh Evans, & Joe Langham

Laune Rangers played a lot better in the second half and had Dromid/Waterville under a lot of pressure. Laune Rangers were award a penalty (while on another evening they may have got a couple of more) & Mikey O’Donnell finished it excellently. Martin Fay, Oisin Flynn and Adam Owens added points in the 2nd half
