County League - Laune Rangers vs St.Michael's/Foilmore -
Sat. 14th May
Laune Rangers:
0-10
St.Michael’s/Foilmore: 0-16
Laune Rangers and St.Michael's/Foilmore met for the second time in a week on
Saturday evening. Laune Rangers had the upper hand last weekend in the Club
Championship and were hoping for something similar this time around. However,
St. Michael's/Foilmore showed they meant business straight from the off and
never let up the lead they established from the first minute, sealing the
victory and more importantly securing the 2 away points.
St. Michael's/Foilmore raced into a 4 point lead within 6 minutes of the
opening half, two Eanna O'Connor points (1 free) were followed by a Ronan
O'Connor effort and a brilliant Cian O'Connor point from outside the 45 yard
line. Laune Rangers registered their first point in the 8th minute of the half,
when Mike Frank Russell converted a free. Ronan O'Connor was again on hand in
the 12th minute to push St.Michael's/Foilmore's lead back out to 4points.
Rangers were dealt a blow when Centre forward Seamie Foley had to leave the
field of play with an injury, however substitute Jerry Coffey had an immediate
impact when he pointed for the home side mid-way through the half. In the 17th
minute of the half, Ronan O'Connor sent a ball in towards the Rangers' goal,
the ball dipped but Laune Rangers keeper, Tony Lyons, was on hand to make a
good save and send the ball out over the endline. Eanna O'Connor stepped up to
take the resulting 45' and made no mistake leaving the game 0-06 to 0-02 in St.
Michael's/Foilmore's favour. Jerry Coffey got his second of the evening in the
24th minute, which was quickly followed by a Kieran Doona effort after some
great work from mid-fielder, Tom McGillycuddy. St. Michael's/Foilmore finished
the half strong and registered a further two points, from Cian O'Connor and
Ronan O'Connor (free), before the short-whistle sounded. Half-Time score: Laune
Rangers: 0-04 - 0-08 St.Michael's/Foilmore.
St. Michael's/Foimore's Sean O'Connor and Rangers Kieran Doona swapped points
in the opening two minutes of the second half. Rangers narrowed the gap
slightly with two converted Mike Frank Russell frees in the 10th and 12th
minutes to leave two points between the sides. Eanna O'Connor pointed a free
mid-way through the half to give St.Michael's/Foilmore a three point advantage.
Some good work by Laune Rangers' Maurice Foley & Johnny Carey saw Mike
Frank Russell through for another point soon after to cut the away sides lead
to two points once more. This was as close as Laune Rangers were to get to St.
Michael's/Foilmore. Corner back, Brian Smith, got his name on the score sheet
for the visitors, which was quickly followed by another Michael's/Foilmore
point, giving them a four point lead going into the final 10 minutes of play. Mike
Frank Russell got one back for the home side but this was cancelled out by Sean
O'Shea point. A Rangers free in the 28th minute saw Mike Frank increase his
personal tally but St. Michael's/Foilmore again finished the half strong with
points from Eanna O'Connor (2frees) and Ronan O'Connor to let the score 0-16 to
0-10 in St. Michael's/Foilmore's favour at the final whistle, giving St.
Michael’s/Foilmore a deserved victory.
