In sport, you have ups and downs, good days and bad days. While Sunday's game vs Rathmore wasn't necessarily a bad day, it most certainly was a down! It was great to see a big crowd of supporters turn up at Fitzgerald Stadium to see our Senior Team play Rathmore in the Club Championship Final. The team gave a very hearty, sporting display but unfortunately came up short at the final whistle. Final score: Laune Rangers 0-10 - 0-12 Rathmore.
An evenly fought first-half saw Rathmore lead by two points, 0-07 to 0-05, at the short whistle. Laune Rangers came out fighting in the second half, points from M.F.Russell and S.Foley leveled things at 0-07 a piece within a couple of minutes. Leading by two points mid-way through the half, it looked as though we could be crossing the bridge as Club Champions. Rathmore had other thoughts however and never gave up the fight. Things were all square with 10minutes to play and Rathmore continued to hunt for scores. With 5 minutes left on the clock, Rathmore were back in front, leading by two points. Rangers pushed to find scores but despite having a few chances, none could be found. The final whistle sounded soon after, leaving the score 0-12 to 0-10 in Rathmore's favour.
Hard Luck to Joe, Brian, Adrian and the team. While we didn’t win on Sunday, the team can be very proud of their performance. Driving home from the game, I spotted all the Rangers flags flying high along the Killarney Road. It was great to see this support and to feel that the spirit that was there in years gone by is coming back again. I have no doubt that there will be more great days in the Blue jersey. Until then – Up The Rangers!!
